Maintaining commitment to a weight loss strategy is a challenge for many. In the beginning, we are optimistic about realizing our goals, and achieving them seems easy. However, eventually motivation usually dwindles, and you start to give up. It does not happen to everyone, though. People can get the weight loss they want, and keep it off. How is it accomplished?
It is critical to set a goal to strive for once you decide to work on losing weight. Are you trying to loose weight to fit into some old clothes that you used to wear, or are your goals more ambitious? Or would you like to improve your overall health and fitness levels? Giving yourself concrete goals gives you something to strive for.
Keep and ongoing record of your weight loss progress. Only weigh yourself one time weekly. If you do it more often, you may find yourself becoming anxious when you think you aren’t reaching your goals. Keep a ledger that lists all the food you eat, along with the amount of calories consumed. Make sure you also list any drinks and snacks. It may turn out that writing down what you are considering putting in your mouth can help you make a more positive and healthy choice.
Do not wait until hunger strikes before you make decisions about food. When our bodies feel as if they are starving, it’s much too easy to make poor food choices. To prevent making poor decisions, keep healthy snacks handy, and put some advance thought into your meal preparations. Pack a lunch you like to avoid fast food temptations. It helps you lose weight and cut expenses at the same time. Who doesn’t like killing two birds with one stone?
The best way to lose weight is to combine a healthy diet with a sensible exercise program. You can ensure you will get enough exercise by carving out time for at least a few workout sessions per week. If it is difficult to fit a gym routine into your workweek, try doing fun activities with your family and friends. Dance, walk, play a game, or go for a bike ride with the kids. You will have fun, become more active, and improve your overall health.
If you want to avoid the junk food, simply don’t make it available. You could hide your junk food, but you would probably be better of not buying it at all. If you are surrounded by healthy foods, you will choose to eat healthily.
Inform the people in your life about your weight-loss goals. Having a team of supporters to cheer you on can have a huge effect on your motivation. Tell them to firmly nudge you to get going again whenever you feel like you may stop.
