Sometimes losing weight can seem out of our reach and elusive. The motivation and dedication is always there to begin with, but unfortunately it seems to wane after a little while. Some people are successful at weight loss. How do they take it off and not gain it back? How do these people lose weight so successfully? What is the trick?
Figuring out your weight loss goals and setting a number for how much weight you want to lose comes first. You must also decide if you would just like to drop a few pounds or if you want to lose so much weight that you will have to buy all new clothes. Think about why you want to lose weight. Know what your weight loss goals are. It can be as specific as a set amount of weight you want to lose, or as general as overall fitness.
It is a great source of motivation to record your weight lost progress on a weekly basis. Check your weight every week, and keep a journal of what you eat. Keeping a food journal of everything that you eat is an excellent way to see what dieting changes you need to make.
If you’re hungry, don’t make rash decisions in regards to food. If you wait until you’re excessively hungry, you’re more likely to make unhealthy eating choices, to eat impulsively, or to overeat. The best way to avoid this is to make food decisions ahead of time by planning what you are going to eat and to have healthy snacks available. Pack a lunch rather than dining out. This will help you with two very worthwhile goals – losing weight and saving money!
The two main parts of weight loss are eating healthy foods and getting enough exercise. Some people find that sticking to an effective workout program is a lot harder than sticking to a healthy diet. Exercising can be way more fun if you find an activity you like or start working out with a buddy. Combine the two if you find it to be necessary. Go to a fitness class or on a walk together.
In order to avoid eating junk food, you should get it out of your house. You can’t eat what you don’t have, so keep your kitchen stocked with healthy foods. Keep healthy snacks on hand – fresh fruit, crunchy celery or carrot sticks, anything that appeals to you and is good for your health. Resist the temptation to purchase foods that will hinder your weight loss goals such as chips, chocolates and cookies. If you make these foods less accessible you’ll be less likely to partake in them.
Have your friends give you support any way they can. They might not be able to lose the weight for you, but their unconditional support is the next best thing. If you’re held responsible by someone, it helps you to not give up when you’re feeling like you can’t go on. Calling a trusted friend can provide encouragement whenever you need it. A good friend will be able to give you the psychological support you need to stick to your weight loss plan.
