Losing weight can sometimes seem tiresome and even impossible. You start out motivated and ready to conquer the world, but fear and confusion can put a damper on that feeling pretty fast. It is critical to set a goal to strive for once you decide to work on losing weight. Do you want to break out your old wardrobe that has been gathering dust in the closet, or are your goals bigger? Or would you like to improve your overall health and fitness levels? When you have goals set it will give you something to work towards.


Record your progress at least once a week. Start a weight loss diary, making note of your weight on a weekly basis. Add a food diary to your journal, and be sure to list your food intake throughout each day. You will be more aware of what you are eating since you will be keeping track of it, and this will lead to you making better food selections.


When you are famished, it is not good to decide what you are going to eat. Plan your meals in advance to avoid temptation, and always make sure you have healthy snacks ready. Packing a lunch will help you save money, and it is also a healthier option than eating out.


The key to losing weight is not just eating the right foods – you also have to exercise regularly. Some people have a harder time incorporating an exercise routine into their lives than a healthy eating plan. Exercising can be way more fun if you find an activity you like or start working out with a buddy. Why not do both? Get together with your exercise buddy and go for a walk, swim or bike ride!


Very few people follow through, even though they know about it. Remove any trace of fatty foods, sugary treats and high calorie snacks from your cupboards and fridge. If your cupboards are clean of tempting foods, then you are much more likely to reach for any healthy snacks you have on hand. Have healthy alternatives at hand instead, such as fruit, vegetables and yogurt. Make not so good choices unavailable to you: if it’s not around you won’t think about it.


Appeal to your friends. Tell them you need their support in your efforts to lose weight. It has to be your decision to take the steps needed to lose weight. However, support from your friends and family can make this difficult task much easier. When you are fatigued, irritated or just need some positive reinforcement, it’s great to have friends that you call. People can help you get through your whole weight loss program.
